Easy tips on how to throw an eco-friendly summer picnic

When the sun is shinning we love nothing better than heading to the park with a picnic hamper full of our favourite food bits accompanied by a large jug of homemade fruity iced tea. Grab a frisbee, some speakers and a large picnic blanket to host all of your friends and you have yourself the perfect recipe for a great summer day out.

There is also some really easy ways to make your summer gathering as eco friendly as possible, from Bamboo straws, Wooden cutlery and reusable bottles that help you to reduce the level of non-reusable plastic.

Decorations are really fun way to add a bit of personality and colour to your summer get together. Feed your Pinterest addiction by checking out the many tutorials on handmade decorations including banners and garlands. Or if you are not feeling particularly crafty try buying lanterns and garlands that are made from rice or recycled paper.

Hit your local second hand store for tablecloths and napkins, alternatively Etsy and Anthropologie have a great selection of sustainable napkins including these beautiful sustainable linen ones.

For table wear either try and use your own plates from home (depending on distance!) or we love these Bamboo pastel plates which are almost as light as the traditional paper plate as well as being washable and reusable.

We understand that avoiding plastic completely can be tricky when it comes to packaging, try buying loose fruit and veg instead and look out for packaging that is recyclable, sustainably sourced and biodegradable.

Lastly if your picnic is for a special occasion or you just want to be a little bit fancy (I mean why not!) try these truly unique invitations from Botanical Paperwork’s that are printed on seed paper. After your guests have noted the party location details they can then plant their cards directly into soil and watch as new beautiful flowers sprout.
